Erection problemAccording to Michele Herbaut Buvat, there is erectile dysfunction when in at least 50% of trials erection is insufficient for penetration and ejaculation. It has to be distinguished from premature ejaculation, hypoactive sexual desire disorder or an inability to engage in sexual intercourse resulting from vaginismus. It affects 30% of men after age 50. The likelihood of erectile dysfunction increases with age. Categories of erectile dysfuntionThere are two categories of erectile dysfunction: - The ability to maintain full erections for more than 5 minutes several times a week: Impotence is almost always psychogenic. - There is a problem with each erection. In this case, further investigation is desirable. Medical investigation concerns in particular the existence of a vascular problem or diabetes. Causes and treatmentIt is important to first identify the causes (psychological and/or organic) of the erectile dysfunction to be able to treat it. Along with the pharmeutical approach, psychoanalysis, psychoanalytic psychotherapy and sex therapy are the most frequently indicated treatments. |
