Treatments for sexual problems |

There are different ways to treat a sexual problem. Sex therapySex therapy is a method of treatment of sexual problems. As 90% of sexual problems have a psychological cause, sex therapy is often the most indicated kind of treatment. There are different ways to practice it. One of the most interesting ones was developped by French sexologists Claire and Robert Gellman who were inspired by Masters and Johnson's works. Usually, it is a therapy for couples. Yet it is possible that only one of the patners consults the sex therapist, if the second partner agrees to help the first in this process. Medical treatmentsThe pharmaceutical approach suddenly became very interesting with the PDE5 inhibitors such as Sildenafil (Viagra), Tadalafil (Cialis) and Vardenafil (Levitra), which are used to treat erectile dysfunction. Yet these drugs have two flaws:
Erectile dysfunction remains present despite the medication, it is not cured once and for all. Psychoanalytic psychotherapyWhereas sex therapy aims at making sexual symptoms disappear, psychoanalytic psychotherapy aims at a broader change. It is a talking cure which leads to a deep and lasting change to feel better with oneself and others. Therapeutic relaxationTherapeutic relaxation helps cure a wide range of sexual problems, including hypoactive sexual desire disorder. It also permits to reduce stress and anxiety and to control the level of excitement, which are the causes of many sexual symptoms, like premature ejaculation. |
